 Joyce Hodgins, RN, BScN, PHN, is the Smoking Cessation Coordinator for this site.

Biography: 

p> For over twenty years, Joyce Hodgins has been a Public Health Nurse with Ottawa Public Health, most recently as a Facilitator with the exposé smoke-free youth project. exposé is a cutting-edge youth led adult guided program that has youth educate other youth on the dangers of tobacco addiction and the Tobacco Industry’s manipulative tactics to attract smokers.

 

 For over five years, Joyce has worked in partnership with teachers and students at four Ottawa high schools to promote tobacco use prevention. Her role includes planning, facilitating, and evaluating a range of youth tobacco cessation initiatives.

Joyce graduated from Lakehead University in 1979 with a BScN. She worked as a Community Health Nurse at New Osnaburgh Nursing Station in Northern Ontario before returning to her home town of Ottawa, Ontario. From 1980 to 1987 she worked in the intensive care units at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Her early experience is in the School-Age Health Program at Ottawa Public Health involved community-based health promotion, working with students, parents, teachers and groups.
